Interviews: Abi Phillips
Abi Phillips plays the much-wronged Liberty Savage in Hollyoaks. She's also got her own blossoming pop career. We caught up with the charming young lady during filming for Show Two of The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk to talk about love, life, fashion and her take on male facial hair... she had lots to say!
Who’s been your favourite act so far today?
I’ve only seen one so far – Tinchy and Dappy, but I’m going to see Parade now and then Peter Andre, so I’ll make my decision then.
Is this your first music show?
Well, I came in for the show last Christmas, but that was before I was on screen or anything and I didn’t have to answer any questions. I had an interview this morning though and it FAILED! I’ve never been so lost for words in my life!
What are your hair do’s and what are your hair don’ts?
To be honest, I just wake up and go out with my hair, however it is, but I will say, as a tip: when you’re straightening your hair, don’t lean on your straighteners *shows off fresh burn scar*...
… oh, and also, when girls get hair extensions and you can see the extensions, that’s not a good look. That would probably be my only ‘hair don’t’, because I don’t know anything about hair… at all.
Okay, we’re gonna talk FASHION now. Ready? What could a boy wear on a date that would just put you right off him?
I’ve got to say, like, a back-to-front cap or something. You know when it’s turned backwards and there’s just a strand of hair that falls onto their head or something… I don’t like that.
Oh, and also, imagine if someone turned up to a date in proper, like gothic clothing. Imagine that.
I’m finding it hard...
... How awkward would that be?
Proper awkward...
I had this wonderful thing on my old phone actually (before I accidentally washed it with my hands the other day and it broke) where I could activate a fake phone-call...
... Oh, for when you needed to bail on a date?
Yeah, I’d just be like, "I’ve really got to take this" and then I’d leave.
Scooped V-Necks: hot or not?
If they’re muscle-y then yeah, it’s hot, but if they’re not, nah take it off.
Pardon you! And what about if the man’s got a bit of chest hair poking out?
Oh no – if it’s just like a bit of matted hair that you might find down the plughole, then no way!
What are your views on facial hair?
Erm… I wouldn’t say I like full-on beards, but a bit of stubble’s ok.
Designer stubble?
Yeah. Like Pete* (That’s Pete Mitchell aka Pete Hamill, who is sitting nearby looking very coy). I’m just basing my man around Pete here.
