Interviews: Cover Drive
Cover Drive are the new Bajan sensation to come out of Rhianna's shadow. The four-piece band consist of Amanda on vocals, T.Ray on drums, Barry or Bar-Man on lead guitar and Jarmar on bass. Check out this interview where they talk about all things Cover Drive with us.
Where does the name come from? has it got anything to do with the cricket shot?
T-Ray: Ha, as a matter of fact, yes, my dad is a big cricket fan and our manager he said a cover drive is an excellent shot so we thought that'd be a good move to associate yourself with excellence.
Are you guys cricket fans?
T-Ray: We don’t know so much about cricket, we’re not huge fans.
Who would you compare Cover Drive to?
Amanda: We like to compare ourselves to No Doubt from their Rock Steady album, mixed with Black Eyed Peas – their Elephunk album – that’s a good mixture.
What’s it like being on the Hollyoaks set?
Barry: You want us to be really honest? We’re from Barbados so we don’t see the show. The only thing we do know is there’s a character called Tony, and he’s our tour manager’s brother, so automatically he’s our favourite, so that’s all we know about the show.
How does the Barbados fashion compare to the UK fashion?
T-ray: It’s pretty much the US fashion and the UK fashion but like 5 months late!
Amanda: So when we’re in the UK or the US we’re always frantically shopping to buy things because we’re not used to having so many options in Barbados.
Is this your first time in the UK?
Jarmar: No, we’ve been back and forth between the UK and London, I mean UK, LA and New York and Barbados for the past 10 months, since we got signed.
Are there any artists that you are collaborating with or would like to collaborate with?
Barry: Pretty much all artists!
Amanda: Some one asked this question already and said ‘would you collaborate with Rhianna?’ Yea – anyone really.
What’s next for Cover Drive?
T-Ray: World domination!
Amanda: We’ve got a single coming out on the 28th, so right now we’re promoting our single and hopefully some live performances coming up and we’re just really excited about everything.
How often do you get to go home to Barbados?
Jarmar: We’re going back home next week, end of this week right? Thursday? We’re going home on Thursday so it will be the first time in 7 weeks we’ve been at home.
Amanda: We go home and get our dose of sunshine.
Who is the most famous person in your phonebook?
T-Ray: I’d say Boy Wonder. Eddie Grant’s on our phonebook too!
