Interviews: Hard Fi

Hard Fi's last album release was back in 2007 - a vintage year by all accounts. After working their socks-off for two albums they decided to take a well earned rest, but now they're back with a fantastic new album that looks set to smash Summer 2011. Zane Lowe named 'Good For Nothing' in his 'Hottest Record in the World' comp.

The lads came to see us on the Hollyoaks set and ther was so much to catch up on. Read all about it here...

How’s it feel to be back? Is it an exciting time for the band?

Ross: Yeah, yeah, it’s brilliant. We’ve been away for a while so it’s good to be back doing gigs, doing tv stuff, being back in business.

Were you in the studio the whole time that you were away or did you take any time off?

Ross: There was a bit of time off, yeah. See, we went straight off the back of the first album into the second one, so we needed to take a bit of time off really.

Kai: Yeah, got to do some normal stuff for a while.

Ross:  Yeah, but then from there we just went back to writing and putting everything together for the third album, but it didn’t take too much time that really?

Can you tell us a bit about the new album? What can we expect?

Richard: Well, we’ve all had a bit of time to get our heads back together. The pressure was off a bit for this album, so we just got to have a good time and try things out. I think that comes across in the album too; a lot of it’s quite upbeat. I hope the fun that we had making the album comes across to others.

Is it true what they say about the difficult second album syndrome?

Richard: I think it definitely is because you never really know how to make another hit record and sometimes you start worrying too much and over-thinking everything when really what you should be doing is just enjoying yourself and having a laugh because that’s what people bought into on the first record. You should enjoy yourself whilst you’re doing something.

Ross, I’m just going to ask you some fashion questions-

Oh god, I’m not sure you’re asking the right man!

Don’t be daft, you look extremely dapper. But is there one item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

Ross: Oh yeah, my speedo swimming shorts. Don’t go anywhere without them!
