Katy B

Hi Katie welcome to the show are you a Hollyoaks fan?
I used to watch it a lot when I was younger but now I’m just so busy I don’t really get chance, I occasionally catch the omnibus though.

How does it feel to be nominated for the Mercury Prize?
It is an honour, I couldn’t believe it when my agent called me and told me the news. It’s been such a strange journey for me so far, everything has happened so quickly.

Do you think you will win?
Probably not, there’s a lot of strong competition this year and I love most of the albums that have been nominated. It is honestly just a privilege to be mentioned amongst such big names.

You’re friends with a previous winner Miss Dynamite has she had any tips for you?
She’s been there every step of the way but I’ve not spoke to her about the nomination really. She really started a trend and I think paved the way for the likes of myself to get nominated in the future.

Who would you like to see win if you don't emerge triumphant?
It would be nice for a woman to win it as I think it is often a very male dominated prize so I’ll say Adele but I toured with Tinie Tempah last year and he was so cool and his shows are stunning so if either wins I’ll be happy for them.

How was that tour with Tinie?
Incredible he was so welcoming to me too, he invited me into his dressing room right from the start there was no segregation from my band and his, I have so much respect for his ability to put on a show I really learned a lot from him, everytime he performs it is so tight there is literally no mistakes and that’s a compliment to how hard he has worked.

Who else are you listening at the moment?
Frankie Ocean's mix tape is really cool, I really like Robyn at the moment as well. I have her on repeat constantly she's a complete inspiration to see how she's gone about her career.

How was Glastonbury?
Glastonbury was brilliant – it was so cool. I thought it was going to be a bit weird because it was in the day but the thing with festivals is it’s the same feeling no matter what time you play – people are still drunk.

What’s next for Katy B?
I’ve got my UK tour in October and November so I’m working hard and getting ideas for it and trying to make it better than the last one.

How would you describe your style?
I like to be comfortable no matter what so I wear a lot of Vans I just can’t get enough of them. I wore two outfits today both were very comfy.
