Interviews: Parade

Parading around The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk this week a the new contenders to Girls Aoud's thrown, Parade. The five all singing, all dancing girls told us which city has the best fashion sense, and what turns them off a guys. *puts away the flip flops and summer vests*...

ParadeSnog, Marry Avoid (Lee, Doug, Riley):

Jessica: That’s harsh! We can’t avoid them!
Sian: Yeah, harsh. We’d have to marry Lee though, because he’d keep us entertained.
Jessica: Make us laugh wouldn’t he?
Bianca: Can we not just have them both?
Lauren: Yeah, can we not snog them both?

Okay, I suppose it is only hypothetical. They’ve all done pretty well out of that then.

Best gig you’ve ever done?

Bianca: We did this gig that was just for our fans. Before that we’d just been doing support stuff, so it was the first gig that was just ours. We couldn’t even hear the words to our own songs because everyone was singing along.
Sian: Yeah, the fans were singing all the words right back at us, it was amaaazing!

Any disastrous gigs?

Jessica: Oh, there’s always drama! Normally on stage we’ll like bump into things, or fall over or something! But because we’re so giggly we just get up and laugh it off!

Do you have a pre-gig routine that you all follow?

Bianca: Yeah, we say to ourselves, 'we’re the business, we’re the business’ haha!
Lauren: And we do some vocal warm ups too of course. Haha!

Do you have any tracks that you listen to before going on stage?

Sian: Yeah, when we toured with Alexandra Burke we played Beyoncé’s album – that really got us going!

Fave track of the year?

Bianca: Beyoncé’s new one (Girls Run the World). It’s the video
All agree
Lauren: And we like Bruno Mars as well.
Emily: We do this sorry, we can’t pick one!

Favourite track of all time?

Emily: Erm…Parade, Louder?
All: Yeah! *much raucous giggling

You’re all from different corners of the country; which city do you think has best fashion sense?

Sian: Liverpudlians have really good fashion sense-
Jessica: Yeah they do.
Sian: Where else did we go though that had good fashion sense…?
Bianca: Scotland?
Sian: No! Er…
Jessica: We’ll go with Liverpool.
Emily: Yeah, Liverpool’s got the best style.

Is there anything a guy could wear that would turn you off?

Jessica: Vests make me feel physically ill!
Sian: What else? We actually had a list the other day didn’t we? Really, really skinny jeans –
Jessica: Yeah drain pipes.
Emily: I don’t like flip-flops on guys.
Bianca: I don’t like it when guys have their trousers down by their knees. If I walk past someone like that, I’ll just pull them up!

Hair do’s, hair don’t’s?

Jessica: Curtains on guys are a hair don’t.
Emily: Although it looked good on Leonardo Di’Caprio in Titanic.
Lauren: It depends on the face.

What’s hot at the moment?

Lauren: Chinos are the new jeans!

Good sound-bite. Thanks. What’s the one way to rain on your Parade?

Jessica: Ah, I see what you did there!
Sian: Just to be a bit dry and have no energy. We like our crowds to be energetic, even if they get a bit rowdy.

Sian, you say that you can make an outfit out of nothing. Can you give us an example?

Sian: Yeah, well we had this gig once and we didn’t know what to wear, but I found this big, man’s boiler suit in a vintage shop and I decided to make a jump-suit out of it. It was in the best colour – like bright red! Everyone was like, 'Sian, this is not gonna work’, but I just made a few adjustments and it was one of my favourite costumes to date.
Jessica: A masterpiece.

Do you ever co-ordinate your outfits for stage appearances?

Jessica: No, we like to bring different things.
Bianca: Somehow it always works though doesn’t it? There’ll always be a colour or a theme that comes out miraculously.
Lauren: Clashing is the new co-ordination.

That’s the second great sound-bite you’ve given me Lauren! Best/worst chat-up line you’ve ever heard?

Jessica: Is your Dad a thief? Because he’s stolen the stars and put them in your eyes…

What’s the weirdest request you’ve ever had/thing you’ve been sent by a fan?

Lauren: Yesterday we signed a floor-tile!
Sian: Oh yeah, and we were given a banana. And an avocado too!

What are your plans for the rest of the Summer?

Emily: Festivals, radio road-shows and promoting the album!
All: Yeah!
