Interviews: Six D
Chantelle Bernard, Pierre Angus, Kieran Edmonds, Kimmy Campbell, Cassie Macmillan and Levon de Silva are Six D wowed the audience outside MOBs and left most of us gasping for breath as they somehow pulled off outrageous breakdancing moves combined with some top class pop singing. We just about managed to gather enough breath to interview them...
Tell us a bit about how Six D started, I believe you were the chosen few of many?
Chantelle: Our manager was looking to start a new act of artists who can both sing and dance so we were auditioned amongst 2,500 others. It was quite nerve racking and there was a lot of waiting but we were the chosen six.
Have you all come from different sorts of backgrounds in terms of dancing and singing styles? Did any of you know each other before?
Kieran: We’d met each other at similar auditions and events. I’ve done a couple of things with Pierre before but this was the first time I’d met most of the guys.
On the point about styles I’d like to think we’ve all got our own sort of super powers, and that’s what you could interpret Six D as meaning ‘Six Dimensions’ each one of us adds another dimension.
How have you gelled as a band since forming, your performances look like you’ve known each other and gained each others’ trust for years?
Kimmy: Well we just practice so much, and yeah we do trust each other 110%. We all get on too we is fun, we like to play jokes on each other but we’d never mess around during rehearsals
You supported JLS on an arena tour while breaking through, tell us a bit about what that was like, I’d imagine there was plenty of pressure mixed with loads of excitement?
Pierre: To play one of your first gigs to an audience of over 18,000 was just incredible, we had complete faith in our routine but that doesn’t stop you from getting nervous. It was probably The ‘Best Damn Night’ I’ve had so far, haha.
How does the quaint Hollyoaks set compare to those packed out arenas?
Cassie: It was amazing, I in particular watch Hollyoaks a lot and it was an amazing experience just to come and see the set, I only wish I had longer there because we had to rush off to another gig in Manchester.
One of your tracks is called Best Damn Night, what would you say makes your best damn night?
Levon: Good music and better company really, I like being with friends, who doesn’t?
And finally if I was to give you Six D pounds (£60 get it?...no?...fine) to spend on one item of clothing what would that item be?
Levon: Ha good question, probably a pair of Vans I take my Vans everywhere.
