Interviews: Sugababes

It has taken a long time to catch one's breath after interviewing the Sugababes, we caught up with them in their dressing room...ahem...where we found them to be; lovely, funny and insightful. Here's our interview with the girls in which Heidi reveals how she almost became a Hollyoaks babe.

SugababesHeidi is it strange once being the newest member of the group and now becoming the longest serving Sugababe?
Heidi:
When the girls joined, I knew exactly what it felt like because I’d been through the same thing. So now we support each other, we’ve all been through it which is good because no one doesn’t understand what it’s like going into a band with two people have already been in it for ages.

You’re all from different places in the UK, where would you say has the best dress sense?
Jade:
London
Amelle: I’m going to say across the nation – but Heidi, you’re going to have to say Liverpool!
Heidi: Girls do make such an effort here at home and I love that but some of the girls get it wrong as well. Most of the girls go that extra mile when they go out and they look great but that doesn’t happen everywhere.

Were you excited to perform on the set of Hollyoaks?
Amelle:
Yes, it ‘s a very relaxed, easy going show – you go in and do a nice live performance and you get to see a lot of good talent here too.
Jade: She’s playing it down, she’s a huge Hollyoaks fan.
Heidi: Yeah she’s been spotting everyone and every set taking loads of photos and tweeting them too I'd imagine.
Amelle: Red handed!

Who’s your favourite character?
Amelle:
Cheryl is my favourite, she’s really funny and a really good actress.

What would your characters be like if you were in the show?
Heidi:
I was saying to the girls I actually had an audition for Hollyoaks and my audition was here so it was weird coming back. I didn’t get the part but when I got into the Sugababes they contacted me for another part. I had to say ‘no I’m in the band now’. It strange coming in here and remembering how nervous I was for the audition!
I was also an extra a couple of times when I was younger. I did one episode when it was somebody’s funeral and we were at a church and I did one here but I spent most of time sat in a canteen.

Heidi will you get the chance to visit family while you are up here?
Heidi:
Yeah that’s one real bonus of coming up here, normally shows are in London or Manchester but for this I get to spend some time with the family…I can’t wait!

Is it hard not to retaliate to Twitter comments?
Amelle:
Yes! I usually re-tweet comments to name and shame them and then block them!

What’s the weirdest request you get on Twitter?
Amelle:
I can’t repeat them. One person sent me a message and then sent me another one saying, I didn’t mean this, I meant that – and I thought ‘that’s even worse’.
Heidi: There was one message I kept getting over and over. It said “on a scale of one to ten how ticklish are your feet – I need to know for a university thing?” I thought it was just a weird question. But someone sent me a message saying don’t reply to this, it’s for a festish website. And Jade goes, ‘Oh I replied to it’.
Jade: I thought someone genuinely wanted to know – so I replied to it. I said, “Oh I’m about an 8”.

Finally. Who’s the most famous person in your phonebook?
Jade:
I’d say Usher – but I don’t have his number, I have his BBM, does that count?
Heidi: I don’t know if it’s still her number because it was years ago but mine is Kelly Osbourne.
Amelle: I’ve just lost my phone so I probably only got about 15 people in my phone. Actually, I had Prince Harry in my phone. ONLY JOKING!!!!!

What is your ideal day off?
Amelle:
It depends on how your feel.
Jade: Mine’s on the couch, in my pyjamas watching Gossip Girl.
Heidi: I think we’re all the same with pyjamas food and TV. I’m going home after this but I only have tomorrow off, so I can only stay one night.
